A LONG HAIR LOVER
During the early 1970s it was fashionable to have long hair.
I can't recall the exact year but I'm guessing 1975? I made the big mistake of going to a Barbers shop which was just around the corner from my Grandparents house in, Maltby.
The Barber was recommended to me by my Grandad. Once there I asked for my usual fringe to be cut and a little bit taken from here and there from my long hair. Little did I know the Barber was an ex Army Barber!
The shaver came out and he shaved all my hair off just like you see the new recruits in those Army recruiting films.
"YIKES."
I had the proverbial took out of me when I returned to School on the Monday morning.
My mates nicknamed me Sam after the young boy on a popular TV programme of that time in 1975 called SAM, about a young boy growing up in a Yorkshire mining village, between the 1st & 2nd world wars. Hence the shaved hair!
Mind you it could have been worse because a similar programme was out
at the same time called JOBY.
